Cynthia Bjorn

Kansas City, Missouri

Cynthia Bjorn is a contemporary painter who uses incredibly fine brushes to create modern, intensely layered paintings.

Bjorn received her BFA with a focus on painting and design from the Kansas City Art Institute and attended graduate studies at the University of Missouri - Kansas City.  After a career in corporate design she redirected her path back to her studio practice.

Using the painting’s surface as a metaphor for conversation, she layers paint until a statement that captures her intention and intuitive voice has been created. Bjorn’s process is highly meditative as she builds each layer by hand and then slowly and precisely applies an even coat of resin. The process of applying the resin freezes her meditation in process imbuing each piece with its own personality and emotional energy.

Bjorn has exhibited her work throughout the United States including The Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art in St. Joseph, MO and Point Gallery in Denver, CO. Her work has been featured in several publications including Studio Visit Magazine and Kansas City Voices.
