Please join us at Weinberger Fine Art for the public viewing of Let Democracy Bloom by Katrina Revenaugh. This show will be on display from November through December 2020.
“From a very early age, my mother taught me to love botanicals. Some of my best childhood memories consist of “helping” her work in planting beds and making pressed flower art. Through her, I learned a true appreciation for nature. To this day, spending time in a garden makes me happy—especially as a photographer.
For the past eleven years, I’ve photographed graffiti around the world. It’s been my passion to celebrate it in unusual ways. This series is no exception.
While traveling to shoot street art has been impossible during the pandemic, spending hours photographing in botanical gardens and green spaces has not. The quiet beauty of nature has been a refuge during this unusual time where we are distanced from so many of the things and people we love yet immersed in one of the most politically negative times in our history.
Creating these complex works that are blooming with abundance, bursting with color from graffiti walls, and sprinkled with positive gems of street art wisdom is my emotional response to those promoting division, intolerance, suppression, and uncertainty in our democracy. Now more than ever, it is important to exercise our right to vote. We must take a leap of faith. We must be resilient. We must persist.”
